Songbird Travelfax in South Korea

As anybody who follows me on twitter knows by know, I recently spent a couple of weeks traveling in South Korea. In preparation for this trip I purchased a Filofax Pocket Songbird binder and the Filofax Travel Journal Pack from Filofax UK, which I used as a combo Travelfax and diary on my trip. Read on after the jump for details.

Rather than carry two binders, I combined some pages from my daily Filo with the Travel Pack and other custom sheets to make a hybrid 'fax, which could serve both as a travel journal and a datebook. The Filofax pocket size is well-suited to travel, as its compact size makes it an easy thing to carry everywhere and the interior pockets are sized just right to hold a passport.

For the Travelfax section, I included Travel Journal sheets, Filofax itinerary sheets, custom itinerary sheets I made myself, and miscellaneous odds and ends necessary for the trip, including miniaturized printouts of all my hotel confirmations and my entire itinerary from Tripit.

The datebook section remained essentially as I keep it in my daily 'fax, I just only lifted out the previous month through the following month.

The travel journal sheets received their own translucent "today" page marker, while my everyday black "today" marker remained in the datebook section ported over from my daily 'fax. This allowed me to easily switch between journaling what we had done and checking my schedule for what was coming up.
On the journal sheets I included information about where we were, what we did, etc. as well as adorable Korean travel stickers I purchased on Etsy.

While in Korea I amassed a goodly number of little souvenirs: ticket stubs, restaurant business cards, trail maps, etc. that I wished to hold on to. In an effort to convert my journal and these odds and ends into a genuine memento of our trip I picked up an inexpensive (~$30) faux-alligator skin pocket-size binder at a bookstore in Seoul. To this I transferred our itineraries, hotel confirmations, my completed travel journal sheets and all my little papers either punched to go on the rings or slipped into the card slots. The Songbird is now ready for my next travel adventure and my South Korean trip has a permanent home on the shelf in its own Korean binder.

  5. @SNARLing: Sadly, I didn't find any great stationery while I was there. I found some interesting specialty paper, but since I don't scrapbook it didn't seem like something I needed. Most of the stationery and stickers I ran across weren't anything I couldn't find stateside, or hadn't already bought on etsy. :/
